Hike La Givrine - La Dôle - St-Cergue
Jura heights and Alpine view
There is a lot of perspective to the high-altitude walk at the top of La Dôle. The route leads through typical Jura landscape. Various rustic mountain inns line the way. Only one kilometer of the path in the area of La Barillette is asphalted cover, otherwise the paths are mostly natural.
Mighty pine trees on endless meadows characterize the Jura. Through this typical landscape, the hike leads to the observation deck La Dôle. From the lonely railway station La Givrine, you first walk straight on toward La Trélasse, then to the restaurant Cuvaloup de Crans. The striking radar system on the peak points the way. Terrain and flora are becoming ever more alpine.
Above, the view opens suddenly to Central Switzerland and Lake Geneva basin, as well as to the Alpenkranz and the Montblanc. The panoramic view is hardly known, because La Dôle is the second highest elevation in the Swiss Jura (after the Mont Tendre) at 1,677 m. From the summit you can see almost all of Western Switzerland.
The descent to the Chalet de la Dôle runs along the edge of a wild slope. After a short ascent over the Col du Vuarne to La Barillette (the old mountain restaurant of the same name is located just below the mysteriously isolated antenna station), it goes down through pine forests towards St-Cergue. At the junction of Route du Vuarne, it is advisable to avoid the shorter route via L'Archette and instead take the small detour via Vieux Château. On a park-like elevation there is a picnic area and several benches, which once again offer a magnificent view of Lake Geneva.
